South Australian Museum to host audio described tours

The South Australian Museum is set to hold two free audio described tours of the Australian Geographic ANZANG Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition, showcasing aspects of the natural world including animals, landscapes and human impact on the world around us.

Museum Victoria is seeking public contributions to help add value to its online collection of artifacts. In adding alternative texts to over 45,000 images via crowd-sourcing, the organisation is also inching towards meeting website compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA.

Jodi Awards acknowledge digital media access

The tenth anniversary Jodi Awards were held this week at the UK’s annual Museums Conference, celebrating high quality projects that contribute to accessible digital culture.

Highlighting the best use of technology to widen access to information, learning, collections and creativity for people in museums, libraries, archives and heritage, the award categories were updated in this significant anniversary year to acknowledge the role digital media plays in everyday society.

National audio description survey for cultural venues

Australia’s galleries, museums and theatres are being called on to participate in a national survey of how audio description (AD) is used to bring access to cultural venues for people who are blind or vision impaired.

The Arts Access Australia survey is aimed at all arts and cultural venues regardless of whether they currently offer audio description. Taking between five and ten minutes to complete, the survey will gauge the level of audio description offered compared to other access services venues are providing.
