iOS 4 has arrived with new accessibility features

Apple has just released the much anticipated update to its iPhone operating system, iOS 4, which includes additional accessibility features as well as over 100 new features including multitasking, folders and iBooks for the iPhone.

The iPhone is the smartphone of choice for people who are blind or vision impaired according to Paul Schroeder, Vice President of Programs and Policy at the American Foundation for the Blind. The latest updates to the iPhone’s operating system add even more accessibility features to the already impressive suite of features that have made this smartphone so popular with this consumer group.

New Apple patent makes accessing closed captions easier

A new Apple patent published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office last Friday reveals that Apple is likely to add new features that make closed captioning easier to access on devices such as its iPhone, iPad and other media players like Apple TV.

Currently, turning on closed captions or subtitles on videos played on the iPhone, for instance, can be quite difficult. Apple’s new patent includes an illustration of video content that is playing in full-screen mode on an iPhone-like device that has an overlying and partially transparent navigation panel.
