Since the trial began in April, over 12,000 drama programs and over 5,000 factual programs have been played on iview with the audio description activated. The most popular drama program so far has been Poldark, and the most popular factual program The Killing Season.
The audio description is currently only available on iPhones, iPads and Android devices via the iview app. It was originally planned to extend it to desktops/websites in June, but technical issues mean that this will now be delayed until October. The trial, which consists of two hours of audio described programs per day, still has another 12 months to run.
Program highlights for July include Arthur and George, Australian Story, Glitch, How Not to Behave and Inspector George Gently, while the children’s programs to be described include Merlin, Degrassi and Octonauts.
