The project, authored by MAA in partnership with the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network, researched the accessibility of various social media. This research led to the writing of user guides and tip sheets which will enable people with disabilities, particularly those who are blind or vision impaired, to participate online.
The presentation will highlight the ways people with disabilities use social media, the common barriers faced when trying to access social media and practical tips on how to overcome accessibility issues. The tools included in the research are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Skype and blogging tools.
“As CSUN is the world’s biggest disability and technology conference, I’m really excited to have the opportunity to share information on the accessibility of social media, and to learn more about new developments in online media and consumer technologies,” said Dr Hollier.
The presentation will take place on Friday 2 March in San Diego. The resources, which consist of a research report, practical guides and tip sheets, will be launched prior to the CSUN presentation.
Media Access Australia will cover the major stories on online media and digital technology for people with a disability from the conference.
