Under her care, the Round Table expanded to include broader forms of digital accessibility and information access, including access to video services through audio description.
Apart from organising a major annual conference covering Australia and New Zealand, Tammy dealt with the ongoing print disability interests around accessible documents, copyright, Braille, international agreements and treaties, policy submissions and promotion of print disability issues.
“Media Access Australia has been a regular presenter and supporter of the Print Disability Roundtable conferences and a constant presence was Tammy Axelsen,” said CEO Alex Varley.
“Her amazing ability to organise and deal with issues on the spot meant that conferences ran smoothly whilst she always chose to stay in the background. She will be greatly missed as a champion and advocate for disadvantaged and disabled people in Australia and internationally.”
Media Access Australia staff pass on their condolences to Tammy’s family, friends and colleagues.
