Initial reports suggest that switch-off has gone fairly smoothly, although some two hundred people on remote farms are reported to be currently without a digital signal. This should be rectified in two weeks, when a satellite service will be available to them.
The Government’s Digital Switchover Taskforce estimates that almost all households have upgraded their TV equipment to digital in the area. The taskforce has also overseen an in-home assistance scheme to help people on the full Aged Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer’s Payment or equivalent payment from Veterans’ Affairs.
The next area to go digital-only will be regional South Australia on 31 December 2010.
