The awards are organised by the Captioning Working Group, which includes members from Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand, the Hearing Association New Zealand and the National Foundation for the Deaf. Levels of captioning on New Zealand television are low by international standards, with public broadcasters captioning about 20% of programs. Earlier this year the National Foundation for the Deaf launched a campaign to increase these levels.
For more information about the New Zealand Captioning Awards, see this article on the Voxy website.
This year’s Australian Captioning Awards, which are organised by Deafness Forum, will be held at the Sheraton on the Park hotel in Sydney on 31 October.
