Following on from April’s roll out of closed captioning on its streaming of movies and TV shows, leading Internet subscription service Netflix has released software for the Playstation 3 that will allow customers to watch a program with captions without inserting a separate instant streaming disk.

This new service, released in Canada then the USA recently, also includes a streamlined user interface, selected titles in 1080p and the addition of 5.1 surround sound.

These features will also start rolling out to other devices over time, including the Xbox 360, which will be issuing an Xbox Live update soon. The question remains though: now that Netflix will have multiple audio tracks for certain movies, does this mean they might eventually have audio description as well?

Netflix is only available in the USA and Canada.
