VoiceOver, Apple’s text-to-speech screen reader technology, not only reads the name of the menu item you are on, but also reads out information about the content you are listening to or watching. For example, VoiceOver will announce the title of the TV episode you are watching, or the title and artist of a song you are listening to.
Media Access Australia speculated on whether the second generation Apple TV would have VoiceOver support when Steve Jobs announced the new version in September this year. It is great to see that a few months after Apple TV’s release, Apple has upgraded the software from version 4.0 to 4.1 and introduced support for VoiceOver.
Other new features include support for AirPlay. AirPlay is a new Apple technology that allows video to be streamed from devices running iOS 4.2 or Macs and PCs running iTunes 10 and played back on your TV via Apple TV.
