Significant developments include progress on Recommendation 8, which called for the Australian Communications and Media Authority to develop caption quality guidelines under consultation. These guidelines are almost finalised and will be presented to the ACMA Board shortly.
Also, Media Access Australia understands that Screen Australia is ready to announce that it will amend its Terms of Trade to require all films it funds to be audio described as well as captioned, as per Recommendation 19.
Media Access Australia expects that legislation dealing with several recommendations, such as requiring the major broadcasters to provide captions of ‘adequate quality’ on 100% of 6 am to midnight programming, will be introduced into Parliament by August at the latest.
Visit the Progress on the Media Access Review recommendations page, which will be updated as new developments arise.
