The Tasmanian Government's captioning policy, released in February 2007, requires that all TV programs, television commercials, videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs produced by and for all Tasmanian Government departments and intended for public viewing must be captioned.

The Tasmanian Government Website Standards [PDF 156KB], updated in July 2010, requires Government websites to meet W3C WCAG 2.0 standards. This exceeds the standard currently recommended by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

The Tasmanian Government Website Standards document states that websites must:

Meet full compliance with all W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

  • 2.0 Priority 1/Level A checkpoints;
  • Aim for Priority 2/Level AA compliance
  • Try to implement as many Priority 3/Level AAA checkpoints as possible
  • Where audience needs are specific, websites should become Level AA or AAA as appropriate.
