Google has released a number of new services including the Google eBookstore and Chrome Web Store. Both have possibilities for increased accessibility for people with a disability.

The eBookstore offers Google eBooks in a format that works with iBooks on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and therefore can utilise the existing accessibility features of these devices. The Google eBookstore is an online bookstore that allows you to browse and search through what Google claims is the largest eBook collection in the world.

The Chrome Web Store and upcoming Google Chrome OS devices also have promise as it would be possible for accessibility tools to be set up once, and then have the tools and their settings follow the user between different devices. There is currently no confirmation of the accessibility features contained in Chrome OS.

The web store provides links to web pages and cloud-based applications and is designed to provide consumers who rely on the web browser for all of their computing needs to easily find and purchase the applications and services they need.

As the systems become available in Australia, Media Access Australia will endeavour to keep you up to date with their accessibility features and how they might help someone who has a sensory impairment.
