With the trial of audio description on the ABC coming to a close, Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) is hosting a series of teleconferences to gather feedback on it from blind and vision impaired viewers. This feedback will inform the submission to the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy which will advocate for a continued audio description (AD) service on ABC 1.

BCA are interested in hearing about any issues people had trying to access the AD service, the quality of the description offered and what programs they would like described should any service be continued.

Teleconferences will be held on the following dates:

  • Monday 29 October, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Tuesday 30 October, 7.30PM – 8.30PM
  • Wednesday 31 October, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
  • Saturday 3 November, 10:00 AM – 11 AM
  • Saturday 3 November, 2:00 PM – 3 PM

A special teleconference for people who could not access the trial will be held on 7 November, 5.00PM - 6.00PM.

You’ll need to register beforehand by calling the BCA head office on 1800 033 660 (toll free).

BCA, along with Vision Australia and the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network are campaigning to keep audio description on the air. Lend your support by sending a postcard or email to Senator Stephen Conroy and the ABC’s Managing Director Mark Scott before AD is switched off on November 4.
