Government review of disability standards in education

Peter Garrett, Minister for School Education, has released a discussion paper which encourages people to contribute to the Review into Disability Standards for Education 2005.

The Review of Disability Standards for Education 2005 discussion paper provides an important opportunity for education providers, training colleges, teachers and parents to provide feedback about important issues that may require comment. The aim of the Review is to improve “the education and training experience for people with disability”.

NZ audio description trial to start in March

A trial of audio description on New Zealand television will commence on 1 March with audio described episodes of Coronation Street.

The audio description, which is funded by NZ On Air, will be accessible to owners of Freeview HD and Freeview Satellite set-top boxes, and can be recorded by viewers.

The Australian Government’s Media Access Review has proposed a trial of audio description on ABC1 in the second half of 2011, subject to funding approval.

Policy on trials of 3DTV and emerging TV technologies announced

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released its response to the discussion paper, ‘Temporary trials of 3DTV and other emerging technologies’.

The ACMA’s response concluded that any trial of 3DTV or other emerging television technologies, such as audio description, by major networks on available television spectrum should not be longer than one month and should safeguard consumer interests.
