A new program will see targeted children’s performances captioned so that more kids who are Deaf or hearing impaired can develop a love of theatre.

The Captioning Studio, the only company that provides theatre captioning in Australia, has launched its new GoTheatrical! Kids service which will provide captions for selected performances for children in years 3 to 12.

When launching the project, Nari Jennings, co-founder of The Captioning Studio, spoke of her passion for the performing arts and social inclusion for people who are Deaf or hearing impaired. “I came up with the idea for GoTheatrical! Kids because I really believe that every child should experience live performance and I also believe that the arts should form a part of the education of every child.”

The project is supported by a number of venues and production companies and is endorsed by organisations including the National Association of Teachers of the Deaf, Arts Access Australia and Media Access Australia.

A complete list of captioned performances for children is available on The Captioning Studio website.
