Highlights of the convention include:
- Saturday 1.30pm: Echolocation: Seeing with Sound – explores how echolocation devices make avoiding obstacles easier.
- Saturday 3.05pm: Advocacy: How to Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk – get the foundation skills you need to negotiate effectively.
- Sunday 10am: Enabling access for students with vision impairment – Media Access Australia’s CEO Alex Varley discusses solutions identified in a recent review of the issues faced by students in Australian education systems.
BCA’s National Policy Officer Lauren Henley said, “Our national convention is a great opportunity for people to get together, network and compare notes on the latest developments of interest to people who are blind or vision impaired. With the additional access that technology can offer, this is always an area that we endeavour to explore.”
BCA has had a big year with the campaign for audio description on ABC TV and work with the Australian Electoral Commission to make voting via phone a reality for people who are blind and vision impaired for the first time.
