In July, Media Access Australia, in partnership with Council on The Ageing Western Australia (COTA WA) and funded by the nib foundation, released a kit to assist seniors with disabilities participate online. This has now been provided as an audio book, catering specifically to the needs of those who are blind or vision impaired.

The Helping seniors with disabilities get online kit has been distributed to COTA WA member organisations across the state. The resource equips organisations with the knowledge to run workshops for older people who have a disability or may be experiencing a decrease in sight, hearing or mobility.

The guide talks people through how to get started with computers and websites, including instructions on using assistive technologies. There is a particular focus on using social media, due to its potential to increase social inclusion for older people. Using the guide, seniors can, for instance, learn about screen magnifiers and use Skype to video chat with relatives overseas.

The audiobook can be downloaded from the Geoff Gallop Digital Library and played through a computer, Mp3 player, smartphone or tablet.
