The Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) is a web accessibility design and development run by the not-for-profit organisation Knowbility. Teams of professional web developers come together to learn best practice by developing accessible websites for registered non-profit organisations.
The Knowbility blog post on the 14th AIR-Austin reports fast and fierce competition with fun mixed in with knowledge acquisition. Developers came away with practical web accessibility skills and best practice techniques for creating accessible websites.
The first AIR event was held in 1998, the same year that Australia’s only conference dedicated to web accessibility, the OZeWAI conference, started. The OZeWAI conference has provided web professionals with practical information and best practice for making websites more accessible to the community for the last 14 years.
AIR-Austin is the last of the three AIR events, with AIR-Houston held in December last year and AIR-Interactive held online in January. The winners will be announced at South by Southwest Interactive Media Festival next month.
Information on how to make websites accessible can be found in our developer section.
