The theme of this year’s conference is ‘putting the person at the centre’. The program states that “Person-centred approaches empower people with a print disability by positioning them at the centre of policy, decision-making and service planning and delivery.” The four-day event covers topics such as Braille, web access, entertainment and education.
The conference program includes a number of renowned Australian and international keynote speakers, including Peter Osborne from the Royal National Institute of Blind People in the UK and Mary Kelly, equity director from the Queensland University of Technology.
Media Access Australia is a long-time supporter of the conference and CEO Alex Varley will present on the importance of audio description for giving people who are blind or vision impaired equal access to entertainment.
“Whilst ensuring movies, DVDs, television programs are audio described is essential for achieving access for blind people, it doesn’t just stop there,” said Varley. “The ancillary services around that, such as promotions, booking information, buying tickets and physically accessing the product are as important.”
Media Access Australia will provide extensive coverage of the conference.
