Media Access Australia Project Manager Dr Scott Hollier and board member Victoria Rubensohn have been appointed to the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) Standing Advisory Committees for 2011-2013.

ACCAN is the peak body that represents Australian consumers on communications issues, working towards the availability, accessibility and affordability of communications.

Dr Hollier has been reappointed to its Standing Advisory Committee for Disability Issues (SACDI), which assists ACCAN in identifying communications issues faced by people with disabilities and planning strategies to address them.

“It’s a privilege to be appointed to SACDI and I look forward to working with ACCAN and the other committee members to help improve access to communications for people with disabilities," said Hollier.

Dr Hollier also represents Media Access Australia on the Advisory Committee of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the organisation responsible for developing web standards that affect access for people with disabilities. Dr Hollier writes the monthly W3C column with up-to-date news and information on the W3C.

Also appointed by ACCAN is Media Access Australia board member Victoria Rubensohn, appointed to ACCAN’s Standing Advisory Committee for Consumer Affairs (SACCA), a forum that identifies consumer communications issues, develops policies and guides strategic direction.

Rubensohn has been a long-standing expert in communications issues and human rights as it impacts on communications, with a wealth of experience in Australia and overseas.

Visit the ACCAN website for a list of all appointed members.
