W3C to launch community and business groups

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has announced plans to launch two new programs in May designed to make it easy for developers, users and other stakeholders to discuss and develop Web technologies.

The community and business groups will be designed to be open forums for developing specifications, holding discussions, developing test suites and building communities around innovation.

The aim is to improve participation opportunities which in the past have been limited to people who are part of a W3C member organisation or an invited expert.

Australian Government advertises for WCAG 2.0 Content and Compliance Officers

The Department of Finance and Deregulation has posted a job advertisement for WCAG 2.0 Content and Compliance Officers.

According to the advertisement, “The main function of the role will be to address web accessibility issues by assessing, converting and publishing downloadable content, with a primary focus on Portable Document Formats (PDFs).”

FCC to ensure deaf-blind Americans have access to 21st century communications technology

The US media and communications regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has announced that it will spend US$10 million per year to provide low-income people who are deaf-blind with access to 21st century communications technology.

In line with the 21st Century Video and Communications Accessibility Act of 2010, the pilot program will help ensure that individuals who are deaf-blind have access to the Internet, and advanced communications, including interexchange services and advanced telecommunications and information services.
