It covers a wide range of practical information on access issues involving TV, DVDs, cinema, the arts, new media and education; and access technologies including captioning (primarily used by people who are Deaf and hearing impaired) and audio description (primarily used by people who are blind and vision impaired). You will also find information on rules and regulations affecting access, and levels of access on various types of media in Australia and the rest of the world. Progress in Arizona movie access litigation

The Arizona Attorney General’s Department has sued the Harkins Theater Chain for not providing captions and audio description for its movies in contravention of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Although it is likely to be another 4-6 months until the legal process is played out, early indications are that the judges in the Federal Appeals Court are moving towards requiring access to the chain.

Skype becomes accessible on the iPhone 3GS

A number of iPhone users are reporting that the latest version of Skype for the iPhone 3GS has been updated to work with VoiceOver, the text-to-speech feature.

Dragon Age declared most accessible mainstream game of 2009

AbleGamers, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the inclusion of accessibility in video games, has declared Dragon Age: Origins the most accessible mainstream game of 2009 with a score of 9.8 out of 10.

Captioning and audio description at Cowboys Stadium

Mobile captioning, audio description in English and Spanish, and assistive listening are part of a new service now available to guests at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas, home to the Dallas Cowboys.
